Expression lines develop in areas of the face where repeated muscle movement occurs over time including the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes. Fine lines in these areas are a natural part of the ageing process and are associated with repeated facial movement rather than volume loss alone.
Areas of Treatment
The consultation begins with a conversation about your concerns and goals, followed by a comprehensive assessment of your facial anatomy, muscle activity, and skin condition. Treatment options are only discussed where clinically appropriate following that assessment.
Horizontal expression lines in the forehead area associated with repeated upward brow movement. Assessment considers the relationship between the forehead, brow position, and upper face before any treatment is discussed.
Vertical expression lines between the brows associated with repeated muscle contraction in this area. One of the most commonly assessed areas for cosmetic injection treatment.
Expression lines in the outer eye area associated with repeated muscle movement around the eyes. Assessment considers the relationship between this area and surrounding facial features.
Fine lines in the under-eye area associated with repeated muscle movement. This area requires careful individual clinical assessment and is only treated where clinically appropriate following consultation.
Expression lines and dimpling in the chin area associated with muscle activity. Assessed individually in the context of the lower face.
Fine lines in the lip and perioral area associated with repeated muscle movement. Assessed individually in the context of the lower face and overall facial proportions.
All areas are subject to a prior consultation at which clinical suitability is assessed individually. Not all areas will be appropriate for all patients.
Our Approach
Expression lines do not develop in isolation they are part of a broader pattern of facial movement and change that occurs across the whole face over time. At Karui, cosmetic injection treatment for expression lines is always assessed in the context of the whole face, not as a single isolated concern.
Before any procedure is discussed, the assessment considers how muscle activity in the area of concern relates to surrounding features, what other changes may be contributing to the patient’s concerns, and whether cosmetic injections are the most clinically appropriate approach. In some cases a different treatment may be more appropriate. In some cases a combination approach may be discussed. In some cases no treatment may be indicated.
The clinic’s standard is conservative treatment planning. Where a modest, considered approach is appropriate, that is what is recommended. The aim is always to address the patient’s concerns in a way that is consistent with their natural facial features and proportions.
FAQs
As with all cosmetic procedures, cosmetic injection treatments used to address expression lines carry risks. These include but are not limited to bruising, swelling, redness, headache, asymmetry, drooping of the eyelid or brow, and in rare cases spread of the product beyond the intended treatment area. All risks relevant to your individual circumstances will be discussed in full at consultation before any procedure is undertaken.
Cosmetic injection procedures involve the use of a prescription-only medicine. All procedures at Karui are assessed and performed by an AHPRA-registered medical practitioner.
Individual outcomes vary. The effects of cosmetic injection treatment are temporary and the duration varies between individuals depending on the area treated, muscle activity, metabolism, and other individual factors.
This information is general in nature and does not constitute medical advice. Suitability for treatment is assessed individually at consultation.
Suitability for thread lift procedures is assessed individually at consultation. There are circumstances in which treatment would not be appropriate including certain skin conditions, medical history factors, and anatomical considerations which will be identified and discussed during the assessment.
In some cases, thread lift treatment may be discussed alongside other procedures as part of a whole-face treatment approach. Whether a combination approach is appropriate for your individual circumstances will be assessed and discussed at consultation.
All thread lift procedures at Karui Aesthetics are assessed and performed by Dr. Naeem Patel an AHPRA-registered medical practitioner with postgraduate surgical training from the University of Edinburgh and membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
