A whole-face assessment and treatment approach that considers facial proportions, anatomy, and the relationship between features before any procedure is recommended or undertaken. All assessments and procedures are performed under direct medical supervision.
Areas of Treatment
A facial balancing assessment at Karui considers the following as part of a comprehensive whole-face evaluation.
The relationship between the upper, mid, and lower face including the forehead, brow, midface, nose, lips, chin, and jawline. Assessment considers how these areas relate to one another and whether any changes are contributing to the patient’s concerns.
Changes in facial volume associated with the natural ageing process occur across multiple areas of the face simultaneously. The assessment considers how volume changes in one area relate to adjacent areas before any treatment is discussed.
Skin quality, texture, and condition are assessed as part of every facial balancing evaluation. Skin condition may influence what treatment options are appropriate and in what order they are recommended.
The role of muscle activity in the patient’s concerns is assessed. Expression lines, dynamic movement patterns, and their relationship to static facial features are all considered before treatment options are discussed.
Natural facial asymmetry is present in all individuals. The assessment considers existing asymmetry in the context of the patient’s concerns and any treatment planning with the aim of working with the individual’s natural features rather than against them.
The assessment considers all of the above in the context of the individual patient’s concerns, goals, and medical history. Treatment is only recommended where clinically appropriate following a thorough assessment.
Our Approach
It is common for patients to arrive at a cosmetic medicine clinic with a specific concern in mind a single area they would like addressed. At Karui, the consultation does not begin with that single area. It begins with the whole face because the face ages as a system, not in isolation, and because addressing one area without considering its relationship to surrounding features can produce outcomes that appear inconsistent over time.
A facial balancing assessment considers what has changed, how different areas relate to one another, and what approach would be most clinically appropriate for the individual. In many cases that means recommending a different approach to what the patient initially enquired about. In some cases it means recommending less treatment. In some cases it means recommending no treatment at all.
This approach requires more clinical depth and more time than a single-treatment consultation. It is the standard at Karui for every patient, regardless of the procedure they are enquiring about.
FAQs
A facial balancing treatment plan may involve one or more cosmetic procedures, each of which carries its own risks. These include but are not limited to bruising, swelling, asymmetry, infection, and in rare cases more serious complications depending on the procedure undertaken. All risks relevant to your individual circumstances and the specific procedures recommended will be discussed in full at consultation before any procedure is undertaken.
Individual outcomes vary. The results of any cosmetic procedure are not guaranteed and the duration of any effect varies between individuals.
This information is general in nature and does not constitute medical advice. Full risk information specific to each procedure will be provided at consultation. Suitability for treatment is assessed individually.
No. Facial balancing is an assessment and treatment planning approach rather than a single procedure. It may result in a recommendation for a single procedure, a staged multi-procedure plan, or no treatment at all depending on the individual assessment.
At Karui, every consultation begins with a whole-face assessment. A facial balancing consultation specifically focuses on the relationship between facial features and proportions as the starting point for any treatment discussion rather than focusing on a single area of concern in isolation.
You are welcome to discuss any specific treatment you are interested in at consultation. The assessment will consider whether that treatment is clinically appropriate in the context of your individual circumstances and facial assessment. In some cases a different approach may be recommended.
